Welcome to Waiora

So what is Wai Ora? Ora whiskey is made from the finest handpicked kumara from the beautiful Northland - the far north of New Zealand .This is then mashed down and malted and left to brew out. We then distil the malt wash to make a very pure alcohol and then age it in white American oak with 3000 year old old kauri chips from the far north beaches that has been aged in the sand. The timber is lightly charred to give a deeper flavour. We make the alcohol at full strength to speed up the maturation process and after a year we dilute the alcohol to 45% and then run it through a double filtering process - a charcoal filter and a pressure filter - to produce an exceptionally clear and clean final product. Enjoy this whiskey on the rocks as a night cap or with a little water to release Oras’ unique flavours. We find it goes really well with green ginger wine!
